I really want a camcorder, but I am worried that either the camcorder or the software that comes with it will not work with my Windows Vista computer. Will Best Buy allow me to return the camcorder if Vista doesn’t work? I am leaning toward the Hard-Disc Drive camcorders, but I’m not looking to spend more than $500 on it.

I searched the web and it says that the usb driver for my model of the sony camcorder is already installed on windows vista, but when i plug the camcorder in using the provided usb cable to my computer, it does not recognize the camera. I have the sony minidv digital handycam model # DCR-TRV27. Any suggestions would be appreciated. I am using the Windows Movie Maker software.

I tried to install the software that came with my gs300 camcorder and it said not compatible with this version of windows. Is there a way to make it compatible? Is there an update or something for the software to make it compatible with windows vista? I know the Panasonic ps-gs 320 has software compatible with vista. Can I somehow use that software with my camcorder? Thanks.

I have a Sony DCR-TRV280 and Windows Vista Premium SP1 running on a 64 bit HP Pavilion DV9000 laptop. When I connect my camcorder to the laptop, Windows recognizes the USB connection and tries to install the drivers for the camera, but it fails to find the necessary files to install. I’ve tried going to Sony’s website to install the drivers manually, but the only files available to download are Picture Package software.
