I have a Sony DCR-TRV280 and Windows Vista Premium SP1 running on a 64 bit HP Pavilion DV9000 laptop. When I connect my camcorder to the laptop, Windows recognizes the USB connection and tries to install the drivers for the camera, but it fails to find the necessary files to install. I’ve tried going to Sony’s website to install the drivers manually, but the only files available to download are Picture Package software.

Hi, my name’s Cody, and I’m working with the Windows Media Outreach Team to answer questions that users might have using their media devices with Windows.
A good resource for you to check out might be Microsoft’s Vista Compatibility Center at It’s a site that will let you perform a search on your hardware to see if it is compatible with Vista, and will point you towards the resources you’ll need to get your camera working.
If your camera shows up as not being compatible, you’ll need to check with the hardware manufacturer to see if they’ve released any recent patches or drivers that will get your camera working.
Good luck!
Cody
